Dead Media Day 2025 Ann Arbor District Library October 12, 11-3PM

Dead Media Day is Ann Arbor’s celebration of bygone forms of media, entertainment, and ephemera. Join us for a day of vendors selling vintage and rare pieces of media, exhibits, and hands-on demonstrations and crafts.

Everything from old TVs, VHS, audio cassettes, film, cameras and projectors, HiFi audio equipment, vintage electronics & video games, pulp novels, and more defunct or endangered media formats will be for sale and on display.

We are 2 physical media nerds that dove head first into the world of (mainly) VHS and CEDs. VHS (Video Home System) is a discontinued standard for consumer-level analog video recordings on tape cassettes. CED (Capacitance  Electronic Discs) were a needle based analog video disc developed by RCA, which released movies on vinyl-like discs housed in protective caddies between 1981 and 1986.

Patrick (guy with the tapes) hosts social channels under @kzoovideovault, and collects taped VHS tapes from estates mainly in the SW Michigan area. He catalogs them by estate, researching the stations and digitizing both show, commercials, and home recordings found on the tapes.

Chad (guy with the CED player) Collects CED’s, fixes anything he can get his hands on (including but not limited to mopeds, VHS players, CED players, radios, TV’s, and so much more). You can watch his next projects on socials via @chadfixesshit
